Experienced Estate Planning & Administration Attorney

Antonoplos & Associates DC office seeks an estate planning and administration attorney with 5+ years of relevant experience (5-8+ years preferred). The candidate must have experience administering probate estates including the preparation and submission of required filings with the probate court. The ability to draft both basic and sophisticated estate planning documents including those that incorporate estate and income tax planning including irrevocable trusts is required. Should have demonstrated client relationship skills including the ability to lead in-person client meetings. Must be licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia, Maryland or Commonwealth of Virginia. The paralegal will assist attorneys with a variety of duties related to estate planning and administration. This position promises substantial client contact, autonomy and a great potential to enhance and broaden your skills/knowledge in the fields of estate administration and estate/tax planning.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Draft standard estate planning documents (wills, trusts, financial and medical powers of attorney, deeds, etc.)
  • Administer decedents’ estates, including the preparation of fiduciary accountings.
  • Meet and communicate directly with clients on sophisticated estate planning matters.
  • Assist in the preparation of estate and gift tax returns.
  • Facilitate trust administration.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a transactional Paralegal role, preferably estate planning & administration work.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.

J.D. and undergraduate internship opportunities.

Antonoplos & Associates accepts interns pursuing both J.D. and undergraduate degrees. 

J.D. Internship Responsibilities

J.D. interns perform a variety of tasks depending on what practice areas they are interested in as well as the type of cases our firm is handling. These tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Researching and writing memoranda
  • Manage case files
  • Perform administrative duties such as filing
  • Assist with preparation for trials, hearings, and depositions
  • Attend client meetings
  • Assist clients with their legal matters
  • Attend trials, hearings, and depositions
  • Research legislative histories
  • Write legal articles or booklets on specific legal topics

As a small boutique law firm, J.D. interns at Antonoplos & Associates do more than just observe our attorneys. Instead, we offer many opportunities for our J.D. interns to actually practice the law, whether they choose to do an internship during the summer or for academic credit during the fall or spring semester. Further, as our J.D. interns are immediately immersed in our legal practice, both our firm and interns can get a feel for each other and see if the partnership is one that may transition to long-term employment. Over the last few years, we have hired multiple students who have interned with us after they have graduated and passed the bar exam. 

Undergraduate Internship Responsibilities

As an undergraduate legal intern, you will be able to assist our attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff. The most common tasks our undergraduate interns work on include but are not limited to:

  • Perform complicated legal work under the supervision of an attorney
  • Draft documents
  • Perform legal research
  • Prepare and organize files and binders
  • Sit in on client meetings
